Distributors who place bulk orders for plastic food containers keep hitting the same obstacle: the U.S. distributor catalog starts at case pack discounts of 240 or 500 units, the minimum order quantity needed for custom logo printing is not easy to see, the lead time is “ask sales,” and nobody will tell you what happens at the resin level. Plastic food containers with lids are no more than commercial-grade plastic tubs, bowls and clamshells enclosed by a hinged or separate lid – designed to contain soup, salad, meal-prep portions and grab-and-go and to-go entrées. A product itself is commoditized at the SKU level, but the logistics behind it are not, and that is where most buying decisions go wrong.
That pattern is structural. A dependable food container manufacturer needs three elements working as one – volume projection, consistent re-stocking and disciplined lead times – and most U.S. distributors only hold the last 100 meters of that chain. They re-distribute what an AmerCare, Pactiv Evergreen, Karat or third-party Chinese OEM manufactured, mark it up, and then in turn offer the inflexibility. When your order goes directly to the factory, unit prices lower, MOQs become negotiable based on real raw material tonnage, and the lead time stops being a mystery box – it becomes an extrusion schedule.
Wanhui has been operating that schedule for twenty years. Two decades developing meal boxes, bowls and disposable containers means we publish our MOQ freely, own each step from PP sheet extrusion to moulding lid to case packing, and our quoting documentation looks less like a markup list and more like a production schedule. The sections below show what that results in – across six product lines, six certifications, one custom mould and IML printing capacity, and a sourcing platform set up for foodservice clients numbering in the tens of thousands or in the hundreds of millions per build.
The Wanhui Product Line — Plastic Food Containers by Size, Material and Style
The Wanhui catalog spans five ranges, each developed for a unique foodservice use. Find the series that matches your hot-fill temperature, transparency and case pack economics – the catalog comprises ounce-by-ounce portion vessels, pint-and-quart volume containers that suit North American hotel- and deli-based inventory, and vast-full capacity options – and inside the size matrix every range has options anywhere from 8 oz to 38 oz while the whole lot is designed to accommodate both storage and delivery of raw ingredients or ready-cooked dishes. Every vessel is supplied with a matching lid, developed and unit-moulded in-house so the seal profile is yours, not based on third-party packaging.
High-End PP Food Container
Clear, white-and-red/white/black duotone bodies in 8, 12, 16, 24 and 32 oz capacities. Dishwasher, microwave and freezer-safe, designed to be reused between rinse cycles for back-of-house counter service, and corresponding to freezer-to-microwave requirements. Is aimed at retail focused takeaway and repackaging brands seeking a premium appearance, stackable across pallet heights without damage and capable of carrying high payloads. These containers are dishwasher-safe and microwave-reheat compatible across rinse cycles, hold their shape under stack load, and remain reusable for back-of-house portioning where local food safety codes allow.
MFPP Hinged Lid Food Container
One-piece moulded body with a living hinge lid – reliable through hundreds of open-close cycles, no separate lid sku to stock, no lid-swap mistakes at point of sale. Perfect for chain restaurants and delivery aggregators that demand zero miscounts at the height of service. Comes in 1, 2 and 3 compartment options. Durable across hundreds of open-close cycles, the hinge geometry holds for both food storage and foodservice handoff scenarios.
Disposable PP Take-Out Container
Single-use rectilinear take-out containers in clear or black with snap on lid. Designed for food delivery aggregators where fast secure leak-proof grip during 30-minute car or bike delivery is non-negotiable. Airtight rim seal. Validated in a counter-moulded inverted leak test before each carton ships. The snap-on lid geometry is validated for inverted leak tests before each case ships.
Biologisch abbaubarer Behälter
Sugarcane bagasse pulp, PLA and coated paperboard options for procurement teams working to municipal compost standards or brand-style sustainability pledges. Options include vented kraft paperboard lids, PET flat lids.
In-Mold Label (IML) Container
Lid image and sidewall print become a part of the moulded plastic itself – always on time, with no peel, no fade, no wash away. Wanhui IML MOQ from 30000/deisgn, which is approximately 25% of the 100000 MOQ record that the largest North American IML house publishes for stock containers.

Wholesale Pricing, MOQ and Lead Time — Manufacturer-Direct Transparency
Where procurement teams bring the questions to Wanhui “what is the unit price” is rarely asked first. They ask “what is the MOQ” and “what is the turnaround” because they know those two numbers decide the amount of traction they will have in a deal. All plastic, polyethylene container, vendors have a M.O.K. likewise, the worthwhile question is where does that tier structure conform to reality, and is the factory able to match the demand window when it is set by a regional launch or a product installation.
Wanhui publishes three MOQ tiers, three turnaround tiers mapped to the three reasons to buy a container for foodservice: stock SKU restock or replenishment, branded custom print runs, special moulded design. Unit price per vessel will clearly decline along the three-tier dimension, and process time may clear rise along the design or customisation dimension. When you get the quotation from the factory, it will be one entry from each table.
| Stufe | What It Covers | Minimum Order Quantity (per SKU) | Lieferzeit | Typical Buyer |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 — Stock SKU | Existing Wanhui catalog body + lid; no print | 5,000 units | 3 – 7 days from PO (subject to inventory) | Restaurants reorder; small chains pilot |
| Tier 2 — Custom Print | Logo / brand artwork printed on lid or via in-mold label | 30,000 units (IML: 30,000 per SKU; offset / heat-transfer 5,000–10,000) | 15 – 25 days | Regional chains; delivery aggregators |
| Tier 3 — Custom Mold | Bespoke body geometry or lid profile | 100,000 units after tool is open | 45 – 60 days for first batch (tooling included) | National brands; private-label retail |
Pricing is based on true container load economics, not weight/ volume based pricing. FOB Qingdao pricing is available for a complete 40′ container (normally 80,000-120,000 finished units depending on SKU geometry); CIF and FCA pricing are also available with initial buyers who want to trial the performance before committing to an FCL; and less than container (LCL) freight is available to first-time U.S. buyers who want to validate quality and price ratio before jumping to a larger quantity. For comparison, the largest North American IML container producer has a 100,000-unit minimum case-pack for up to four different designs in the mix, with 25,000 units of each desired flavor – Wanhui’s 30,000 IML MOQ is about 3.5X tighter, allowing regional brands and delivery order consolidators to run small branded pilots before sourcing a regular North American distributor’s case-pack program.
Preisfaktorrahmen
There are six factors determining the price per unit on an wholesale plastic container with lids quote:
- resin grade (food-grade homopolymer versus copolymer PP)
- color-matching (clear, single-pigment, custom Pantone)
- wall thickness and maximum stack-load
- lid attachment (detached snap-on, integral hinge)
- printing path (unprinted, offset, heat transfer, screen, IML)
- Incoterm (FOB Qingdao versus CIF port of entry)
The quote sheet lists all the factors explicitly for procurement teams to compare against a U.S. distributor case-pack benchmark.
GET A TIER QUOTE WITH YOUR SKU MIXWanhui vs U.S. Distributor vs U.S. Custom Converter — How Sourcing Path Reshapes Unit Economics
U.S.-based procurement buyers contemplating whether to continue purchasing from a U.S. distributor or begin buying directly from a manufacturer are performing a total landed cost calculation, not a sticker-price comparison. Ideally the correct answer is: the right path for you depends on how much monthly volume you expect to ship, whether you need customization, and to what extent you have foreseen the demand window – there is no single answer. Our grid below shows the three realistic sourcing alternatives against the variables influencing the decision.
| Sourcing Path | Min Order | Logo Printing | Custom Mold | Pricing Basis | Lieferzeit | Ideal Volume |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wanhui (Mfg-Direct) | 5,000 / SKU (Stock); 30,000 (Custom Print); 100,000 (Custom Mold) | In-house offset, heat-transfer, screen, IML | In-house tool design + production | FOB Qingdao FCL container; CIF on request | 3 – 60 days depending on tier | Mid-to-large reorder; regional and national rollouts |
| U.S. Distributor (Cibowares, ePackageSupply, Papermart, WebstaurantStore class) | Case-pack: 240 / 500 / 1,000 units | Not typically available — repackager model | Not available | Per-case USD, stock inventory | Same-day ship from U.S. warehouse | Small-volume reorder; pilot launches; emergency replenishment |
| U.S. Custom Converter | 50,000+ for printed or moulded runs | External print partner (added markup) | External tooling shop | Premium domestic pricing | 60 – 90 days; tooling adds 6 – 10 weeks | Brand-protection volumes; rapid response to recall scenarios |
TCO Snapshot
SILVER TIERWanhui’s strongest case for having sunk more deeper into lower-than-Case pack pricing than a distributor could hope to match relies on three key factors:
- (a) the lower per-unit cost on any level of volume above the case-pack threshold as there is no U.S. repacker mark-up along the chain,
- (b) the flexibility at the 5,000-unit Stock SKU level – far below the case-pack costs that a U.S. custom converter would quote, and
- (c) the value of a new custom branded proprietary concept such as IML, in-mould label and integral color matching that simply does not exist in a distributor catalog.
A total landed cost comparison (product manufacturing costs + ocean freight costs + import duty + customs broker fees) is likely to become more competitive than a distributor case-pack program at sustained monthly volume in the range of a 40-foot container, with the per-unit sum increasing at larger order quantities. The exact break-even point will depend on resin prices, ocean freight costs and destination duty rates; Wanhui’s price sheet explains all to do the calculation with your real-world value.
Run ComparisonFood-Grade Compliance Stack — Certifications and Regulatory Coverage
The No. 1 quoted component driving procurement decisions for wholesale plastic containers being purchased for food/contact use is confirmed food-safety compliance certification – and the phrase “FDA-approved” is, at best, a bare minimum. Any food-grade PP resin produced by any of the dominant polyolefin suppliers in the world will be compliant with section 21 CFR 177.1520 of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s code of regulations governing olefin polymers in food contact articles. The more relevant issue: whether your chosen resin, additive package and finished goods meet your full regulatory requirements for your target markets.
All Wanhui food-contact lines pass six standards. PP homopolymer resin for our premium and disposable lines has a 21 CFR 177.1520(c) item 1.1, and the copolymer resin fitted onto MFPP one-piece hinged containers 21 CFR 177.1520(c) item 3.1a. Polypropylene also appears in the FDA CFSAN Indirect Additives Inventory for the CAS 9003-07-0.

FDA 21 CFR 177.1520
U.S. food-contact olefin polymers. Homopolymer item 1.1 and copolymer item 3.1a coverage for full PP catalogue.
Regulation (EU) 10/2011

Customer Outcomes — Restaurants, Delivery Brands and Institutional Canteens
The five markets which generate the highest level of Wanhui wholesale volume, all run into the procurement question of how do you make food packaging truly consistent across hundreds of points of service, while maintaining the unit economics which make a high-volume foodservice operation viable. A grid on the following page demonstrates how each industry makes use of Wanhui’s offering, through the prism of what changed in their packaging process when they moved away from a multi-distributor network.
Kettenrestaurants
Single Wanhui SKU readily deployed for a regional chain ordering 600,000 hinged-lid MFPP entrées per month, rebadging. Previously across a cluster of five trusted distributors who delivered lids and body mismatches inspired weekly customer complaints. Standardised case pack sizes lead receiving teams to no longer recheck which lid fits what body.
Food Delivery Aggregators
A delivery brand commissions IML printed clamshells in a six-week tooling and first production cycle. Lid graphic remains intact after dishwasher cycle, freezer exposure, bucketing onto the back of a bike, because the graphic is within the product, not attached to the product via label.
Hospital and School Canteens
An institutional caterer generates a migration from foam (PS #6) to PP subsequent the procurement team’s annual compliance review announces the California Proposition 65 risk as well the broader migration away from polystyrene in commercial foodservice. PP provides comparable unit cost at the volume tier, and passes every single certification line.
Convenience Stores
A national convenience-store chain operators an 8/16/32 ounce PP family on the prepd-food bar, sharing a single lid geometry across two body sizes. One pallet of mixed-SKU containers replaces three pallets of mismatched distributor inventory.
Bakery and Deli Operators
Chilled is a bakery group that sources the same clear PET round for chilled cheesecakes and the same PP for hot soups – same supplier – 2 materials 1 PO. Enhanced visual Merchandising in the chilled display improved; transparent pack lower at-counter conversion.
Custom Branding and Mold Development — Wanhui OEM Capabilities
Brand owners willing to buy custom plastic food containers encounter a five-dimensional matrix prior to receiving a quote, where material grade, printing method, quantity, lead-time and tooling capital occupy the axes¹. If you choose incorrectly on only 1, the ripple effect spreads across the other 4! The OEM Specification Matrix we use to guide new branded-container customers through their first quote cycle can be found below²:
Wanhui Plastic Food Container OEM Selection Matrix
| Dimension | Conservative Path | Standard Path | Premium Path |
|---|---|---|---|
| Material | PP (clear or single-color) | MFPP one-piece hinge or PET | IML PP or PLA / Bagasse for sustainability brand |
| Printing Method | Heat-transfer on lid (5,000 MOQ) | Offset on lid (10,000 MOQ) | In-mold label (30,000 MOQ per design) |
| MOQ Tier | 5,000 stock SKU | 30,000 custom-print | 100,000 custom-mold |
| Lieferzeit | 3 – 7 days from PO | 15 – 25 days | 45 – 60 days (tooling included) |
| Tooling Capital | Use existing mould | Modify existing mould | Open new mould (Wanhui amortises tooling for committed multi-cycle buyers) |
The Regional Delivery Brand A buyer starting a regional delivery brand may reach the Standard Path – MFPP body, offset print on lid, 30,000 MOQ, 15 25 day lead time, using an existing Wanhui mould geometry. A national brand protecting its packaging identity advances to the Premium Path. Most pilots start from the Conservative Path.
Four production pathways possible in the same order of fidelity as 1-4 above: offset on lid (highest fidelity legacy), in-mold label or IML (the print is fused into the moulded plastic and never delaminates), heat transfer (most flexible, least expensive for small runs), Screen-printing (cheapest per-piece for single pigment artwork), Pantone color matching included on any quote where fidelity to brand color is important.
Wanhui’s in-mold label MOQ – 30,000 per design- materially tighter than the published 100K units of the largest North-American IML container house, which is what makes regional and delivery-brand pilots financially profitable without excessive tooling investment.

Start-toolFrequently Asked Wholesale Questions
Wie hoch ist Ihr MOQ für Großhandel Kunststoffbehälter mit Deckel?
Wanhui’s MOQ is tiered by the type you order. Stock SKU orders (existing catalog body/lid, no print) are 5,000+ pieces per sku; custom-print runs are 30,000+ for in-mold label, 5,000-10,000+ for off-set or heat-transfer print on lid. Custom-mould projects are 100,000+ once the mould is up and running. Each quote refers to 1 row of the MOQ tier table above.
Wanhui’s PP food-container lines meet FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 – the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations chapters pertaining to olefin polymers in food contact articles. PP homopolymer resin conforming to paragraph (c) item 1.1, copolymer resin used in MFPP hinged containers conform to paragraph (c) item 3.1a. Polypropylene appears in the FDA CFSAN Indirect Additives Inventory (source) under CAS 9003-07-0. Under FDA olefin polymer guidance, no end-use article testing is required when the resin conforms to polymer specifications, but Wanhui has migration testing reports on finished articles used in the EU and other markets.
Can I order a mix of sizes (8 oz / 16 oz / 32 oz) in one container load?
Yes – even a single 40 foot FCL (full container load) will typically convey 80,000-120,000 finished units in a mix of SKU’s. It is not unusual for convenience-store chains and delivery brands running a multi-size family to ship FCL mixed SKU load like this. Each quote sheet breaks down the unit price by SKU and the complete container packing plan is captured in the body/lid distribution matrix.
Do you ship to my country and what are the Incoterms options?
Wanhui currently exports to Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and South America. Pricing is FOB Qingdao for FCL container loads. CIF (cost, insurance, freight) and FCA (free carrier) quotes can be provided upon request. Less than container load (LCL) shipments are available for first time buyers conducting a quality validation before FCL commitments.
What is the difference between PP and PET for hot food applications?
Polypropylene (PP, #5) is heat-up tolerant (up to roughly 96 C for the treated grade) and is the plastic of choice for microwave-safe & microwavable foodservice containers; PET (#1) is heat-up tolerant (roughly 85 C for heat-treated grades) but should not be microwaved. Industry published guidance is uniform on this point: for heat-up & microwave-reheat applications, rely on PP; for cold display & retail transparency, rely on PET. Our Wanhui decision matrix featured above in H2-2 reflects this.
How does MFPP one-piece hinged lid compare to two-piece deli containers?
A two-piece deli container ships as a separate body and lid that must be keyed to one another in supply chain logistics. A single piece MFPP hinged container features a living-hinge between the body and lid moulds, which are one integral unit. The lid is permanently part of the body, match-formed, and there is no separate lid SKU to cart or inventory at the distribution stage. High volume throughput operations (full service restaurants, delivery aggregators) use MFPP to remove the mismatch error at production and peak service.
Can I get free container samples before placing a bulk order?
Yes – free containers can be shipped from previous inventory. Sample shipping is generally billed at courier cost. Custom custom-print pilots are shipped as pre-production proof samples and once approval has been granted on artwork, a sample is ship before the plenium scale production run is transported to the line.
What makes Wanhui different from a U.S. distributor like Cibowares or ePackageSupply?
Wanhui is the manufacturer, not the repackager. A US-based distributor maintains case pack inventory – 240, 500 or 1,000 units per case at retail-style unit prices, with no custom-print or custom-mould options and no influence on unit volume at the resin or tooling stage. Wanhui owns the entire value chain – PP sheet extrusion, body & lid manufacturing, in-mould label imprinting, case packing, FCL shipping. Cost efficiency supports the volume: at low-volume reorders, the U.S. distributor’s same-day export is difficult to beat; at large-volume monthly reorders on the 40-foot container threshold, the direct manufacturer pricing & configuration benefits are significant.
